
Queen Latifah was born Dana Elaine Owens, March 18, 1970, in Newark. Latifah was the second daughter of Lance Owens and Rita Owens is well-known for her acting and social-politics abilities as well as her gift for rhyme. A Muslim cousin gave Latifah the nickname "delicate sensitive" at the age of eight years old. Latifah sang in the choir of the Shiloh Baptist church in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
