
Ormond was born in Epsom (Surrey) as the daughter of Josephine Ormond, a laboratory technician , as is John Ormond. Ormond is the second of five children to her parents. Her first performances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted the attention of many. Then, she went to Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After a single year of art college, she transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. She graduated in 1988. Ormond made her first appearance on British television's 1989 serial Traffik. It was about illegal heroin trade between far East as well as the streets of Europe. Ormond played the drug-addicted son of the main character, a Home Office minister working to stop the importation of heroin. This role has received rave reviews from the beginning.
